When you "charge" your a/c, do it with the car running and the a/c on full blast (recurc too). The sensor should detect pressure and engage the clutch. Just fill to the propper pressure and enjoy cold a/c. If you hane a leak you will find traces of "oil" near the leak. The oil will look clear and it doesn't smell like motor oil. Kinda musty. Thats how I found my leak. 180sxfaktory wrote: Outstanding How-to! 240sxvaj wrote: NICE! Thanks!
Jupiterimages/Comstock/Getty Images Driving a vehicle with a malfunctioning air-conditioning, or AC, compressor on a hot day is a miserable experience. The compressor is a major component of the AC system but can fail from seizure. Rebuilding the compressor is an option for a do-it-yourselfer. Function An AC compressor pressurizes internal refrigerant fluid for cooling the air that enters the vehicle interior. The compressor functions by using multiple mechanical parts meshed together for the physical refrigerant pressurization. The mechanical aspect of the compressor makes it possible for a mechanic to disassemble and analyze the moving parts for a rebuild. Rebuilding Empty the oil from the compressor interior. Remove the compressor's shaft nut and disassemble the compressor carefully, avoiding any bending of the parts. Inspect the parts for any distortions before rebuilding. Replace any parts that are structurally compromised for preventing compressor leaks. Reverse the disassembly procedure and carefully mesh the parts back into their respective locations.

That's exactly how mine works. Nice and cold at speed, and barely cool after sitting for a couple minutes. 06-12-2008, 11:23 AM #7 So, in your experience, would a new compressor improve my A/C cooling at idle and in traffic? I forgot to mention that the mechanic said that the clutch was dragging when the A/C was switched off. Thanks! 06-12-2008, 11:34 AM #8 I don't believe that the compressor is the reason why the A/C doesn't get cold in traffic. I believe that is because there is insufficient heat exchange at the condenser. If your A/C clutch is dragging, that could be a separate problem. 06-12-2008, 11:55 AM #9 Start by ensuring that both evaporator & condensing coils are as clean as they can be. I got on from FCP Euro for $190... Hopefully doesn't explode on me. Is this a difficult job? I keep reading about people saying to "oil" the compressor... I also have a new dryer and orifice tube and I'm just trying to take the right approach as far as doing this properly. I'm pretty sure that I can get the compressor installed without issues I'm just uncertain of the others, especially the oil in the compressor... Diagnosticator?
