PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- You may be surprised by a little known secret about your auto insurance. Your rates may be determined by factors other than your driving record. According to experts, your education level and credit have more to do with your car insurance rate than how you drive. And one auto insurance company that says it's doing things differently wants the practice exposed. Consumer advocates say car insurance companies use what they call "proxies" to determine the rate you pay. "Basically a substitute for asking how much money do you make. We use proxies such as a person's credit score, or whether or not somebody who has a four-year college degree, or they work in an occupation that makes a lot of money, " said Eric Poe, the chief operating officer of CURE Auto Insurance. Poe calls it a negative practice that he says needs to stop. "It has a tremendous impact on minorities who make up the largest population of the lower income skilled drivers in this country, " Poe said. For example, Poe says if you have a poor credit score you could actually pay more for car insurance than somebody who's had a DWI in the last three years.
This was the height of early covid and there was no chance of visiting her. I am still traumatized from this experience. She did come off the ventilator but spent 6 weeks in the hospital in total due to needing IV antibiotics. During that time I easily spent 6-8 hours a day on facetime with her. When she left the hospital, within a month she was living with me again (boyfriend was, shockingly /s, a cheater). But this time was different. I was fucking ANGRY and I couldn't understand why. Due to her injuries, she wasn't fit to work so was at risk of losing her car. In the first month she moved back in with me, I made two car payments and gave her over $300 in cash for gas (to attend 2+ AA/NA meetings a day) and cigarettes, in addition to feeding and housing her (no chores were EVER done by her then or previously) and paying for her car insurance and her phone bill for the past 2 years. I was furious, but mostly with myself. I didn't understand what had changed - she certainly hadn't. I had.
Helping around the house, moving my work schedule to make her life easier, and spend more time with her. Making little plans to do things, continuing to "date my wife" and having movie nights, going to the park, etc. I cook, I clean, (she does too, just not as much as I do) I feel as if I will never make up the debt to her that I owe her. I want her to be happy, I truly do. And it's always been that way. I've racked up $15k on my personal credit cards trying to make her life easier, whether it be a gadget, or just putting necessary purchases on my own card so she wouldn't fret about money. I want her to be worry free, happy, and healthy. At this point, you're like "wtf, I thought you said you were gonna get on with it" Ok, here goes. I'm a piece of shit and I know it. While I was gone, I developed a deep friendship with someone I was with. It developed deeper than a friendship, and she is also married. I know most of you could already see this coming, and I know, I'm a fucking turd. While my wife was going through the ringer, I was having fun in the desert with no consequences.
In the meantime, I'll keep on with my new regimen while looking for a different Derm office that takes my insurance.

About three years ago, I left for basic training. I was a late bloomer before enlisting, without a doubt. Before I left, we got engaged. After returning, I was home for about 4 months (NG), and we had a small, intimate wedding before I deployed in October for the middle east. The timing could not have been worse for my wife, who is also an empath. We consider each other our best friends, and with me gone, she began weathering the storm of life without me there. Car problems, a harsh winter, corona virus, the loss of communication with me for days when my base came under attack, a deployment extension, sickness within her family, and isolation due to the pandemic on top of everything tore my heart out for her. She adopted a dog to try and cure her sadness, which got deathly ill and she had to bring back to the shelter. I feel an empty pit where my organs should be, my legs heavy as I relive her life since I was gone. Since I've been home I've tried to make it up to her in every way I can.
