Working from home has only confirmed how bad it's been. The tenuous, barely-there line between "work time" and "home time" is now completely dissolved: there are no boundaries, and respect for associate time/capacity seems to be even more nonexistent than before. I finally accepted that I need to get out, and soon. I find such a crutch in the financial and job stability (I live in a stupidly expensive city), but my mental health is worth more. What good is any of it if you're wildly unhappy with your life (and shaving years off of it from stress)? It took a lot to reach this point, and even to contemplate leaving biglaw or law firms generally (thanks, in part, to T14 law school indoctrination, student loans, and being an overachiever my whole life). But here we are. Without a doubt, I need to get out. I so appreciate any advice you might have to help me get there. I first started applying to in house positions. That is, or was, my ultimate goal. My litigation experience is pretty well-tailored for an in house job (although I wish I had done transactional in retrospect), and I've spoken to in house friends and mentors at length.
