Introduction Women may have liposuction performed under the chin, on their hips, thighs, and stomach, and in the under arm and breast area. For men, common sites include under the chin and around the waist. Liposuction may also be used in the reduction of enlarged male breasts, a condition known as gynecomastia. Healthy, normal-weight people with elastic skin and pockets of excess fat are good candidates for surgery. The best candidates for liposuction are of normal weight with localized areas of excess fat– for example, in the buttocks, hips, and thighs. The surgeon inserts a cannula through small incisions in the skin. At the other end of the tube is a vacuum-pressure unit that suctions off the fat. Liposuction is a procedure that can help sculpt the body by removing unwanted fat from specific areas, including the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck. Although no type of liposuction is a substitute for dieting and exercise, liposuction can remove stubborn areas of fat that do not respond to traditional weight-loss methods.
Liposuction surgical Side effects (Possible): Temporary bruising, swelling, numbness, soreness, or burning sensation may occur. If the tumescent technique is used there may be temporary fluid drainage from the incision sites. The UAL procedure may have larger incisions for cannula. Patients that use heating pads or cold pads after surgery can burn their skin. Liposuction Complications (Possible): Some possible liposuction complications that can occur are infection, asymmetry, rippling or bagginess of skin, pigmentation changes, skin injuries, fluid retention, and excessive fluid loss leading to shock. The UAL procedure may result in thermal burns caused by the heat generated by the ultrasound device. Seromas are common. Extremely tight girdles can cause skin necrosis. Liposuction Downtime: Patients can go back to work in 1 to 2 days. A patient may participate in more strenuous activities in 1 to 2 weeks. The use of the tumescent technique or UAL may decrease post-operative bruising and swelling.

" Liposuction patient on Advanced Technology for Liposuction Liposuction terminology can be very confusing. Many different terms such as tumescent, power-assisted, laser-assisted, ultrasonic, and water-assisted are used. The key to understanding these terms is that they all involve liposuction. When it comes to laser or ultrasonic liposuction, the laser or ultrasound energy are used to break up the fat, making it easier to remove with liposuction. These heat-based techniques also can create scarring and contour irregularities. Our surgeons offer an innovative body contouring technique called SAFElipo®, which stands for "Separation – Aspiration – Fat Equalization". It includes power-assisted liposuction performed with a special vibrating cannula that breaks up the fat. The SAFElipo technique was originally designed to treat the complications from heat-based liposuction techniques until doctors realized that it was just a better way to do liposuction from the start.
In your initial consultation, Dr. Baker will evaluate your health, determine where your fat deposits lie and assess the condition of your skin. He will explain the body-contouring methods that may be most appropriate for you. For example, if you believe you want liposuction in the abdominal area, you may learn that an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) may more effectively meet your goals; or that a combination of traditional liposuction and UAL would be the best choice for you. Dr. Baker will describe the procedure in detail and explaining its risks and limitations. The Best Candidates for Liposuction To be a good candidate for liposuction, you must have realistic expectations about what the procedure can do for you. It is important to understand that liposuction can enhance your appearance and self-confidence, but it will not necessarily change your looks to match your ideal or cause other people to treat you differently. Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with Dr. Baker.

It is important to look at before and after images to get an idea of what can be achieved with a surgery and to help guide the process with the doctor to determine the outcome you want. Additional Liposuction Options & Techniques VASERlipo (Vaser Liposuction): Another option is Vaser Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction. Vaser Liposuction uses minimally invasive ultrasound technology for precision body contouring. VASERlipo produces eye-catching results in just one procedure and the technology provides many benefits versus traditional liposuction treatments. By targeting fat in various regions of the body, ultrasonic waves break up and separate fat cells for removal. Surrounding tissue is unharmed and patients generally experience less pain and consequential bruising. Key benefits of VASERlipo: Produce eye-catching results in a single procedure Easily remove large amounts of stored fat Smooth skin even in delicate areas like the arms and neck Refine and accentuate the appearance of muscles With VASERlipo, a small probe transmits ultrasonic sound energy to break up fat upon contact.
