Given the specific requirements for the LEED Gold structure, quality materials were needed to meet performance and functionality expectations. The project team chose Metal Sales because the panels could be customized to provide an exact amount of ventilation while maintaining security and aesthetics. Metal Sales worked with the project team to develop a panel with 52. 94% open area for ventilation. Even with over 50% open space in the panel, the perforated T2630 panels still provided the structural integrity needed for the screen wall. "I am impressed with Metal Sales' ability to customize a product that meets the specific requirements of the Facebook Data Center Project, " said Jim Stedman, President of Stedman Sheetmetal, Inc. "The panels surrounding the generator yard had to meet strict specifications. Metal Sales was able to work with the design team to create a customized panel that satisfies these requirements. " Metal Sales provided approximately 15, 000 square feet of customized T2630 perforated wall panels for the generator yard.

We are thrilled to announce that we will be expanding the site by 900, 000 square feet with two new buildings. Since 2010, when we broke ground on our first custom-built data center here in Prineville, we have continued to build and expand and we anticipate keeping construction crews busy for years to come, with approximately 1000 workers on site at peak. Once completed, this 11-building campus—which, at nearly 4. 6 million s... quare feet, is Facebook's largest data center in the U. S. —will represent an investment of more than $2 billion. Facebook's data centers are among the most energy and water efficient data center facilities in the world. Our Prineville Data Center is supported by 100% renewable energy, including two solar projects located right here in Oregon. We also have two water restoration projects in Oregon that are helping overcome the increasing demand for water and support the local community. Today, we are also announcing a new $60, 000 grant for Crook County School District's K-12 robotics program.
"A standard data center with a chilled water system uses 100% of the water. We use only 30% of the water a normal data center uses, " Patchett said. Patchett walks viewers through the entire cooling process at Facebook, starting with the vestibule where air comes down from the "penthouse", the place Patchett says creates the real energy efficiency magic. Facebook's Prineville airflow vestibule The vestibule contains a number of humidity and temperature sensors which takes readings as air passes into the data center. It can then respond by increasing or decreasing the amount of humidity and temperature required. "I am standing in an air temperature of about 70 degrees Fahrenheit now, and about 30% relative humidity, " Patchett says from the data center floor. The penthouse features hurricane-force louvers which bring the cold air into the building. It then passes the air through filter banks and a wall of pipes that can produce pressurized water to humidify the air and cool it down to the required temperature.
Archived Content The following content is from an older version of this website, and may not display correctly. Facebook has detailed how it has incorporated energy efficiency technologies into its "first" Prineville data center in the US, with a video on its Facebook page posted yesterday. The video outlines its efforts with free-air cooling, how its Open Compute efforts contribute to efficiency, how it recovers water and uses a solar farm on the site to power its office activities. Facebook Prineville facility manager Ken Patchett leads the tour. He says Facebook's energy efficiency efforts mean Facebook deals in what it calls 'Negawatts', as opposed to Megawatts, "because this is the power that we never had to generate to run this building – the carbon footprint in creating energy doesn't exist because we are not using it". Facebook reclaims all water at the site and uses this for its bathrooms and gardens – this is both from rainwater runoff and condensation. But most of its efficiency is gained through the use of free-air cooling.
They have shown what a partnership between a small community and large corporation can be in Rural Oregon. I applaud their efforts, especially in their support of our school district here in Crook County. I am a founding board member of Crook County Education Foundation as well; I am excited about their continued investment in the K-12 robotics program with a new $60, 000 grant. " —Representative Vikki Breese-Iverson "Facebook has been a wonderful addition to Crook County, and we are excited that they are continuing to grow with us. " —Crook County Judge Seth Crawford
